Pursue positivity

Yesterday, I was useless! Literally! We went on a field study with our third graders to the UTA planetarium and to see a science magic show. It was totally awesome and would have been better had I not been sleep deprived as well as getting a splitting migraine. Now, I started getting migraines when I was about 19. I remember my first one! I called my mom, who was out of town, in tears cause my head hurt so bad. Come to find out, they run in my family. My grandfathers sister suffered from them. Anyway, I had such a bad migraine when I got home yesterday from school, I couldn't even eat or keep my eyes open. Michael literally took care of Ariya all night. I sat up to feed her then went right back to sleep. No fun at all. This was a major migraine. Nausea and all!
So, you might be saying, "what's positive about this?" Well... The fact that I have a loving husband who took on the responsibility of our child alone last night without complaining and who knew how bad I felt. I really don't know where I would be without him! He is one of a kind and out of this world! Love him do very much and he is a perfect dad! So, there is your daily positivity.
I can't wait to start running next week! I know it's going to rock!
I will leave you with some pics from our field study to UTA yesterday! Enjoy penguins!

Next year

Today, I found out I will be teaching third grade again! I am beyond excited. I am also excited cause of who my team will be! One of the members is the current fourth grade teacher who will bring so much wisdom and knowledge to our team! The other is one of my best friends. I am so thrilled that my principal let us teach together again. We taught kinder together for the past two years. She is an amazing teacher and I can't wait to learns from her. The last person is new but I'm sure she will fit right in.
So, that was my positivity for today! Now, for those who don't know, Michael has gone vegetarian. I'm proud of him but it's hard to have meals when I'm not vegetarian. So, I am going to try something. Starting next week, I am going to try and start cooking for both of us. Maybe using tofu and veggies a lot but I would like to cook good healthy stuff. Also, I plan to start running again next week. I will keep you updated on that too.
Last, here are a couple pics of Ariya! She is growing and growing.

Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides!! Please share with family and friends!

Have you been looking for a way to help out kids? I have the way!

Michael, Ariya and I are going to walk in the CF Great Strides event on May 19, 2012 and we would like you to help support us. For those who don't know, Michael and I are both carriers of CF which means that any kids we have will have a 25% chance of having the disease and a 50% chance of being a carrier. We just found out that Ariya does not have the disease but that does not change our decision to continue to support the cause. This is something that is very close to both of our hearts! If you notice the name of our team is "Born to Breathe"! Michael and I believe that every child should be born to breathe and the only way to make that happen is to find a cure for CF! Please support us and donate! Also, if you would like to join our team and walk with us, please contact me and I can get you all set up!

Here is some more info about Cystic Fibrosis!

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a devastating genetic disease that affects tens of thousands of children and young adults in the United States. Research and care supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is making a huge difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF. However, we continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. That's why your help is needed now more than ever to ensure that a cure is found sooner - rather than later.

We would love to have you or anyone you know join our team or at least make a donation! Remember, even $5 helps! Share this with friends, coworkers, family members, ANYONE! Also, if you work for a company that matches donations, that is great too! Share this blog with anyone you know and make a donation... Or join us for the walk!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Ariya's first week of life!

Ariya Juliet Torres was born on January 16, 2012 at 9:31pm. She weighed 7 pounds 8.9 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches in length! She is perfect. She has been a great baby so far and loves to "talk" all day long!

The Thursday after she was born, she wasn't eating well that day. She was sleeping most of the day and I thought that was weird. I told Michael that something just didn't feel right. We took her to Children's Dallas ER. We were expecting them to just say she is just a normal baby and she is fine. Well, that is definitely not what happened! They decided to do a spinal tap, blood culture and urinalaysis. I was in the hallway of the ER crying my eyes out cause I thought, "Why did we even bring her?" Due to the possibility of menangitis, we had to stay in the hospital overnight. We were expecting everything to be ok and go home the next day. Nope! We were told it wold be 48 hours. So Saturday rolls around and the doctor comes in and says that the urinalysis came back positive for bacteria. Ariya had to get an ultrasound to make sure that her kidneys weren't blocked or that urine wasn't backing up in them. Thank goodness that the ultrasound came back normal or we would have been in the hospital for a minimum of 10 days! NO FUN! They eventually let us go home on Sunday morning with a prescription antibiotic to give her for the next 8 days! Luckily it tasted good to her so giving it to her wasn't a chore! We were glad to be home and to know that everything was OK.

To this day, we still do not know exactly what caused the UTI. When I was in labor I ended up running a fever and getting an infection due to my water being broken for so long. That could have been it but it seems we will never know for sure. At least she is healthy now!

We had so many people praying for us and our little girl during this time and without those prayers, I don't know if we could have made it. It was one of the hardest times of my life. I don't think I have ever worried so much before!

She is growing everyday and is an amazing little girl. I can't wait to continue to see how she changes!

Here are some pics of her birth!

I was in a little pain! The epidural came soon after!

How to be prepared???

So, as you may know, I am due to have our daughter, Ariya, this Saturday! Well, that is my due date but it really could happen anytime! I am very excited! Also, you may know that I am a third grade teacher so leaving my kids for 8 weeks is not an easy task. I like to be in control of things! But, one thing that I have had to do is be prepared constantly. Every day when I leave my classroom, I have my substitute binder (which I'll post a pic of later!), my lesson plans and my daily behavior chart all laid out just in case something happens! It is amazing how much my life has changed since I started to become more prepared. I can't just leave school at night and say, "oh, I'll do that tomorrow", cause I may be in the hospital tomorrow! I have to be ready. But what this has shown me is how important it is to be prepared. I have not come home with work to do at night cause I get it all done at school just in case I don't come back. It is truly amazing. Also, I have become addicted to pinterest lately and have gotten some AMAZING ideas from it. I now have an absent folder for kids who are absent, and my sub binder just to name a few. I think tomorrow, I am going to take pics of what I have used from pinterest and do an "ode to pinterest" blog soon! How cool would that be??? Anyway, being prepared is awesome and I really think that this should continue even after I go back to work in March! I hope all of you can get prepared. If you're a teacher, I would LOVE to help you out!! So, have a great evening everyone and stay prepared!

Time has flown!

Well it seems that the last time that I posed on here was in July!!! I am so bad at this. Well I am now 38 weeks pregnant and am due in a week and a half! Michael and I are very excited. With 2012 here, I thought that I needed to start doing more things for myself, especially with the baby coming and all! When I started blogging MONTHS ago it was cause I needed more positivity in my life. I was becoming very unhappy with my life due to some unfortunate things that had occurred and I didn't know quite how to handle them. I was constantly being negative about life and if you know me, you know that is not who I am. I feel that I am one of the happiest people but these events that occurred really took a toll on my emotionally. I have always loved to write, especially poetry, and so I figured that starting a positivity blog would help me to see the daily positive in everything.

I want to start blogging again because in a few days, I am going to have a child of my own that I want to instill good values in. One of those is positivity! I want her to be able to look at the world through positive eyes and see the good in everything, no matter how hard it may be at times. I want her to see me doing it and being a good model at it. I want her to realize that even though bad things happen in life, they happen for a reason and we just have to trust.

So, I am going to start blogging again on life's daily positives for me, my family, and especially for my new daughter! I hope that when you are having a "this day sucks" kind of day, you can come here for some positivity!
